I Made My First Promotional Video for Folder Slice — Challenging but Rewarding

Recently, I finally completed the first promotional video for Folder Slice. As a newcomer to video editing, this was a brand new challenge for me. The process was tough, but seeing the final result made me genuinely happy!

The main reason I decided to make this video was to give a more systematic introduction to Folder Slice, so more people could discover this handy tool for improving file access efficiency on Mac. Previously, I was focused on development and only occasionally shared new features, but I realized many users weren’t fully aware of the overall experience and key highlights of the product.

This time, I spent several days writing a complete tutorial, recording footage, and trying my hand at editing a promotional video for the first time. Honestly, I’m just starting to learn video editing, and all the animations were created frame by frame, which took a lot of time to fine-tune.

The Process Was Hard, but the Result Was Rewarding

To be honest, as a “beginner” making a promotional video independently for the first time, I ran into plenty of pitfalls and got stuck on all sorts of small issues. For example: How do you make animations look smoother? How do you pick the right background music? How do you convey the core value of the product within a limited timeframe? Every question felt like a huge challenge.

Video editing was a completely new field for me. Previously, I only edited talking-head videos, where the focus was on the content, not the editing itself. Now, I had to showcase the product’s highlights and usage scenarios, which was much harder.

Animation, editing, music, pacing—each aspect was a new lesson. At first, I wasn’t even familiar with the most basic editing operations, and I had to manually adjust each animation frame by frame. Although the process was exhausting, sharing the video with my friends and receiving their positive feedback made me really happy.

I believe that next time I make a video like this, I’ll be much more skilled. Although this promotional video still has plenty of room for improvement, I’m convinced that every attempt is a step forward.

Now, with this video, I can introduce my product to everyone in a more systematic way. It’s so exciting—before, I had to explain everything in detail every time, but now, hey, I have a cool video to show!
